Study Task 3 - Who Do I Want To Be?

During this weeks session I did a SWOT analysis of my personal, Interpersonal, Technical and artistic skills. Two of my peers also did a SWOT analysis of me and made me realise strengths and weaknesses I had not considered of myself. From this I want to take advantage of my strengths and improve upon my weaknesses.

Last year i found my energy levels were quite low and this affected my productivity level. To combat this I have joined the gym to become more active and hopefully increase my productivity levels with my course work, as well as keeping my mind and body happy & healthy! To keep track of the tasks I must complete between all 3 modules and to balance my private life and hobbies I have started a bullet journal, including dates for each task to be completed. To develop upon my artistic skills I have followed 3D & Stop Motion artists on platforms where they display their work, to inspire and encourage myself to post on my Instagram account and blog.

Study Task 1 - Who Am I Now?

5 things I have learned so far on the programme:

  • How to animate using traditional, 2D digital, 3D CGI and stop motion techniques.
  • How to build a stop motion puppet
  • Different fields of work involved in the animating process and of which would interest me.
  • How to use Photoshop, After Effects, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, and basics in Maya.
  • How to produce an animation over 30 seconds on my own; completing  the script, storyboards, animatic, sound and editing the composition on Premiere Pro.

5 things I want to know more about:

  • The uses of Maya in Animation and 3D modelling of characters and backgrounds.
  • CGI animation and the software involved.
  • filming process and how to operate a camera for the use of capturing stop motion animation.
  • The different job roles I could possibly specialise in.
  • How to promote myself online and attract professionals to collaborate with, or do work for.

5 Skills I think are my strengths:

  • Photoshop digital drawing using a Wacom
  • 2D digital animation
  • detailed drawings
  • premiere pro video editing

SHOWREEL LEVEL 4

For my level 4 showreel I decided to present my best work and show off the animation and design skills I felt I had developed most and were most proud of. When putting this together I had the chance to look at all my work from the start of the year to now, making me realise how far I had come. I found myself finding flaws in all my earlier work that I had not noticed at first. Comparing this to recent work I could see how much I had improved in my drawing skills, the timing of frames and in video editing. I had developed skills in Photoshop, Premiere, Illustrator and After Effects, leading to the production of more professional animations.

Study Task 9

NICK PARK

Nick Park is a director, writer and animator from Preston, Lancashire. He studied Animation at the National and Television school in Buckinghamshire, where he created the characters for Wallace & Grommit for a graduation project and used traditional stop motion techniques to bring them to life. He did not finish the episode he had begun in time for his deadline, however, during this time he invited Aadman's Peter Lord and David Sproxton to the school as guest speakers. They then invited him to spend two summers with them to help them with various projects. He began prop-making for Morph and then moved on to animating Morph. The team at Aardman then took on his unfinished Wallace & Grommit project and when finished, was nominated for an Oscar in the short animated film category. They have since won 3 Oscars for the Wallace & Grommit films. His most recent film is the stop motion Early man.
