- The tutors taking the programme had more experience working in the industry than those in other universities I looked at in the UK and i felt like they would have more advice to offer me when i go to look for work following my degree.
- The tutor interviewing me was genuinely interested in what i had to say and was keen to answer all the questions i had for him about the course.
- There are more job opportunities to explore in the industry in England rather than in Northern Ireland.
- I talked to students when i visited the university last year and they were more enthusiastic about the course here than those in Manchester or Belfast.
- the facilities in the university as a whole are brilliant and i felt as if i could create my best work in this space.
What I want to learn during my time on the programme:
- I want to explore all the different possible roles i could play in the Animation industry so that i can eventually focus on what suits my personal interests and abilities.
- how to develop my ideas and communicate them to a team of people.
- how to use different media to create characters and scenery
- I want to research what other animators have created in the past and see what factors of their work I can apply to the creation of new animations
- I want to learn how other people studying this course with me, work, and about what type of animations they are interested in as I can take inspiration from them into what to research
The skills that i feel are my strengths:
- drawing and sketching realistically
- thinking outside the box
- listening and understanding other peoples ideas
- visually thinking and seeing an image before i create it
The things that i want to improve:
- drawing in a simpler form to make it easier to recreate a figure for the in-between frames.
- Photoshop skills
- time management
- character and story line development
- Digital drawing skills
Ways in which i will evaluate my progress:
- Sketch books for each module, showing development of my knowledge of the industry , context of practice & actual animating and drawing skills.
- I will be keeping blogs for each module documenting any research and work i do throughout the course
- I will be able to look back on my work published on my blogs and compare it to my recent work, picking out what I have been doing better and what i have not yet developed on.
- I will be discussing each task with my class mates and will ask for their advice and opinions on my own work
- I will listen to feedback from my tutors and ask for their advice in order to develop my work further
